Forty Students Recognized at Cum Laude and Senior Recognition Ceremony for Academic and Creative Achievements

The annual Cum Laude and Senior Recognition Ceremony celebrated 40 individual students this year. Departmental Honors were presented to Seniors for academic and creative excellence and junior and senior Cum Laude Society inductees were recognized.

“[These students] embody the Westridge purpose in that they have developed their intellectual and creative powers and their unique qualities as individuals in impressive and noteworthy ways,” said Head of School Elizabeth J. McGregor.


Departmental Awards:

The art department recognized Ashley F., Bailey G., Olivia N., Audrey W., and Elizabeth W. for the exceptional development of their intellectual and creative skills, creating artwork that demonstrates integrity, courage, and perseverance.

The English department awards honors to students whose love of language and literature inspires themselves and others. The English faculty asked the senior class to decide who amongst their peers has inspired them and has enriched their experience in their English classes. The class of 2019 chose to honor Ava C., Sophia K., and Frances S.

Kimi A., Salomé A., Ava C., Rachel H., Sophia K., Kalila P., Zia S., and Frances S. were recognized by the history department for going above and beyond in their understanding of the complexities of history and demonstrating superior writing, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

Hannah B., Sarah B., Iyla R., and Kaitlin Z., were recognized by the mathematics department for their perseverance and the determination to tackle difficult and unfamiliar problems and in applying mathematical concepts to real-life situations.

The modern and classical languages department commended Kimiko A. and Hannah B. for Latin, and Rachel H. and Isabella L. for Mandarin. These students were honored for their dedication to communication, drive for perfecting language skills, and their interest in the development of a culture’s language and history.

The science department recognized Sarah A., Hannah B., Sarah B., Kate Crowell, Sophia K., Iyla R., and Kaitlin Z. for excellence in the life and physical sciences and their pursuit throughout their time in Upper School, as well as their pursuit of mastery over the sciences through independent science projects.

The dance department honored Lauren G., Molly M., and Amy S. for their excellence in technique, style, choreography, unique interpretations, and showmanship.

Mia B., Melissa B., Mason G., Zellie O., and Lydia P. received music honors for their musical excellence, outstanding leadership, and a dedication to music beyond the Westridge community.


Cum Laude Society

The Cum Laude Society recognizes academic achievement in secondary schools for the purpose of promoting three essential qualities: excellence, justice, and honor.  Established in 1906, the society is recognized both nationally and internationally, to promote learning and sound scholarship.  The following students were inducted and received their pins:
