Posted 10/19/2018 03:41PM

The Tigers are wrapping up regular season play for fall sports, and Coach Horn says “the fall sports teams made tremendous progress this year, with freshman setting the pace in cross country and golf. I am extremely proud of each team and am grateful for their commitment, hard work and excellent sportsmanship.” Here are some season highlights and well-earned high fives to all our athletes who worked their Tiger tails off this season.

Varsity Volleyball finished 4th in Prep League with big wins against Chadwick and Flintridge Prep. The team advanced to the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs with the help of lead hitter Nicole G. ’19 (272 kills), second lead hitter Krystal R. ’20 (156 kills), assist leader Abbey Y. ’20, and Julia C. ’20 who led the team in digs this season.

This month, volleyball hosted its second annual Dig Pink game, partnering with the Side-Out Foundation to raise money for breast cancer research. The Frosh/Soph, JV, and Varsity teams all played against Mayfield while spectators enjoyed a food truck and raffles throughout the games.

Middle School Volleyball A-Team (currently 4-2) defeated Flintridge Prep on Friday in the final game of the season and will advance to MSIL playoffs on Monday, October 22.

The Cross-Country team placed 5th in Division 5 at the Mount SAC Invitational today, and previously placed 4th at the Bell Gardens Invitational, with all three freshman medaling in the Frosh race. Congratulations to Edna H., Clara K., Olivia Q.! Freshman Jazlyn G. has also proved her tiger stripes, maintaining the fastest times on the team throughout her first season. The team will compete in the Prep League finals next week (October 27).

Varsity Golf had a great season, with three golfers qualifying for the Prep League finals where Sara L. ’22 placed 4th, Jay H.-K. ’20 placed 6th, and Christine B. ’20 placed 11th! Jay and Sara made the All League team, and Sara will represent Westridge at the CIF-SS Golf Individual Regionals on Monday, October 22. Big wins during the season included Polytechnic and Mayfield Senior.

JV Tennis holds a special place in Prep League history, having been undefeated in Prep League for eight consecutive seasons. With only two games left in the season, they are close to claiming that honor again!
