Members of the Westridge Upper School community gathered last week for the annual Senior Departmental Honors and to recognize this year’s Cum Laude Society inductees, comprised of both juniors and seniors. Thirty-eight different students earned distinction at the assembly.

“The Westridge community has watched these impressive students develop their intellectual and creative powers and we are proud to honor them today for their unique qualities and extraordinary efforts, which have enhanced our school and our community,” said Head of School Elizabeth J. McGregor.

The art department recognized Cory L., Eleonore W., Jessica H., and Brenna B. for the exceptional development of their intellectual and creative skills, creating artwork that demonstrates integrity, courage, and perseverance.

The English department awards honors to students whose love of language and literature inspires themselves and others. Brennan C., Sara L., Ashley Q., Ashley W., and Ella W. were recognized by the mathematics department for their perseverance and the determination to tackle difficult and unfamiliar problems and in applying mathematical concepts to real-life situations.

Samantha C.-U., Sofia F.-R., Camille L., Ashley Q., and Ella W. were honored by the science department for their involvement and persistence in science beyond the required coursework by carrying out independent science projects and for their contributions to the Westridge science community.

The modern and classical languages department commended Emily B. and Jane H. for Latin, Kara B. and Kelsey B. for Mandarin, and Emily M. and Sophia R.-B. for Spanish. The students were honored for their dedication to communication, drive for perfecting language skills, and their interest in the development of a culture’s language and history.

Seniors were also recognized for their achievements in the performing arts. Dance honors went to Matilde E. and Grace M. for their excellence in technique, style, choreography, uniqueness in interpretation, focus, discipline, and showmanship. Music honorees included Katherine B., Nicole T., Kamryn G., and Jessica B. for their musical excellence, outstanding leadership, and a dedication to music beyond the Westridge community.
