This summer five future doctors had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the medical profession thanks to an internship created by Dr. Jossalyn Emslie (Westridge Class of '83). Students Brenna B. '18, Matilde E. '18, Rachelle L. '18, Sofia F.-R. '18 and Sofia S. '18 participated in a week-long medical internship program that allowed them to meet with six different doctors and see firsthand what it's like to work in various medical fields, including radiology, gastroenterology, OB/GYN, and cardiology.
But perhaps the most exciting part of the internship was that Dr. Emslie brought the girls along to shadow her during patient visits! They researched how to take a complete medical history and perform a physical exam before interacting with patients, and at the end of the week they each picked a patient's medical condition to prepare a presentation about. Thank you to Jossalyn Emslie for providing such a great opportunity for these students to explore their professional interests!
