Westridge junior Abigail L. '27 was awarded the Tomorrow Prize, earning first place in this annual writing competition which recognizes outstanding new works of science fiction written by high school students in Los Angeles County. 

Abby's story, “File: Anna Bishop," explores artificial intelligence, loss, and what it means to be human—topics inspired by her service experience at Shriners Children's Hospital and course material in Westridge Peer-to-Peer (a student-led peer support elective in the Upper School). After learning about the rise and ramifications of AI chatbots being used as therapy substitutes, Abby dove into researching the phenomenon of AI "grief bots," or the use of chatbots to simulate conversations with lost loved ones and channeled her unsettled feelings about the ethical implications into a story exploring the boundaries between humanity and technology. Additionally, Jadyn M.S. '27 earned second place for her story "The Continuity States of America," which explores themes of control, identity, women's autonomy, and systemic inequality in Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale through a global perspective.
