Our Upper School students in Art Teacher Shannon Keller's Photo I & II classes recently put their camera skills—and confidence—to the test on the streets of Pasadena as they practiced street photography. Working either solo or in pairs, the students were tasked with going up to people on the street, asking for their consent to take a photo, and then snapping their photo while adjusting for elements including composition, lighting, and exposure and, as Ms. Keller says, making everything intentional. In the weeks after, the classes have been taking turns reviewing and critiquing each other's work.

"The hardest part was convincing people to be in the photo," said Priya G. '29. Because consent was a requirement for the project, students had to consider their approach in talking to people for the project and learn how to accept 'no' as part of the experience.

"Something I didn't realize was how many different people you can see in Old Town [Pasadena]," said Sienna W. '28. " … There were so many characters walking around on a Tuesday afternoon!" See the pictures they captured here!
