Our Westridge Upper School students took off on their local, national, and international trips for the much-anticipated Discovery Week. Per tradition, the week before Spring Break is devoted to a week of experiential learning and new experiences off-campus.
- participated in hikes and garden tours, focusing on the diversity of the Los Angeles ecosystem on the Great Outdoors trip;
- visited the UCLA Art|Sci Center and later built sound sculptures (that can be interacted with in different ways to produce different sounds!) in a workshop with Jason Heath, who specializes in making installation art and interactive technology;
- explored the meanings of freedom and layers of New York City's immigration stories through ferry trips to Liberty Island and Ellis Island;
- witnessed traditions and heard stories from the Diné (Navajo) people of the Southwest in Utah;
- took part in a vibrant and fulfilling cultural exchange filled with singing and dancing with students from a primary school in Namibia in southern Africa—in addition to remarkable wildlife experiences in the country;
- explored the vast natural beauty of Chile, with visits to the Atacama Desert—including the Cejar Lagoon, Ojos del Salar, and Tebenquinche Lagoon—and an opportunity to stargave at the Alarkapin Observatory;
- and so much more!
