This week, Upper School Student Voices and Director of Equity Ian Tatum hosted Sam Prater, the founder of LA Room & Board—an organization focused on creating transitional living-learning communities for Los Angeles college students experiencing housing insecurity—at an Upper School assembly. After Student Voices shared statistics about teen housing insecurity (including how teens of color, transgender teens, and pregnant teens are disproportionately impacted), Prater shared his personal journey from dropping out of high school to earning his doctorate, as well as how working in college housing opened his eyes to the large number of students who don't have access to basic necessities. He encouraged students to take action, whether through volunteering, donating, or working on a project of their own.
