Ms. Houser's 5th grade math class recently tackled a hands-on design challenge combining math and art. After learning about area and volume, students were tasked with creating a 3D city or community with a specific total volume, using prisms constructed out of paper. Students got creative practicing these skills while building their cities, with some designing elaborate "villages" complete with libraries, restaurants, schools, and apartments of all shapes and sizes! They calculated the volume breakdown of each building, posting their results on a Padlet for the whole class to share feedback on each others' work.
