Ahead of the holiday, the Westridge community came together to honor Lunar New Year through numerous vibrant celebrations around campus, both in and out of the classroom.

  • Middle and Upper School Mandarin Teacher Lily Shang’s class worked with the STEAMwork Lab to create 3D-printed snake hanging decorations and 3D ornate Chinese-themed cards, which students designed, printed, and assembled themselves. The class also made Chinese reunion dinner plates out of modeling clay.
  • These ornate creations were on display ahead of the lunchtime celebrations for each division, where students learned more about the Lunar New Year traditions and culture through multiple interactive booth displays including origami-making, face and fan painting, and Chinese calligraphy. Students were also invited to try Chinese snacks and drinks. Halfway through, our Lower and Middle School students were treated to a martial arts performance by Chinese II students.
  • And, of course, kudos to the impressive dragon dance put on by the Lower School Student Activities & Leadership Council (SALC) followed by a student martial arts demonstration at Madeline Court where classmates, faculty, and staff cheered on with excitement.

We wish you all a wonderful Year of the Snake! See a photo gallery of the day here!
