Last week, Upper School students took a field trip down to the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art to inform their studies through art! Students in Spanish 3 were tasked with finding interesting artwork for class and observed pieces from famous artists including Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, and Wilfredo Lam.
Students in Crisis and Courage in Global History had two assignments: to find a piece of artwork that embodies the post-World War I artistic style or artistic movements and explain how the piece enhanced the student’s understanding about the cynicism and disillusionment following WWI. Then in the Afro-Atlantic Histories section of the museum, students were asked to reflect on paintings from the 17th century to the present, highlighting the presence and experiences of Black communities across the Atlantic world.
