Today, new students, faculty, and staff were initiated as either Greeks or Romans in a Winnie the Pooh-themed initiation ceremony! The newest members of the Westridge community took turns visiting the Hundred Acre Wood (PAC) where they were met with Winnie the Pooh (Roman ASB Head Katelyn S. ’22), Eeyore (Greek ASB Head Clara K. '22) and a pack of enthusiastic “trees” (our ASB leaders and class Greek and Roman representatives) who cheered wildly as each new person was declared a Greek or a Roman.

After everyone had been sorted into their new teams, a series of friendly competitions broke out, including pin the tail on Eeyore and Winnie the Pooh trivia. The winners will receive points and take the lead in the battle towards winning the trophy that is awarded to the team with the most points at the end of the year. The Greeks emerged victorious in 2021, but will the Romans seize victory in 2022?

The Greeks and Romans tradition started in 1919. That year, the school’s Athletic Association was formed, and for a bit of friendly rivalry, the school began the custom of dividing its student body into two clubs, Greeks and Romans.
