Sixth-grade Flex—a program that supports social and emotional learning and other essential skill-building—kicked off in classes with Director of Lower and Middle School Dr. Zanita Kelly and Director of Equity Ian Tatum. Dr. Kelly introduced students to #WinatSocial, a peer-to-peer learning platform to equip students (and their families) with skills to navigate their online and offline social worlds, while Mr. Tatum led an exercise and lesson in exploring identity, including the many dimensions that make up who we are and the ways our similarities and belonging shape community. Students participated in Social Bingo, which invited them to learn more about their classmates and discover connections they may not have known they shared.

Split into groups, students meet in Flex every rotation and tap into a lineup of teachers with expertise on various topics covered throughout the year, including: DEIJ (diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice), future financial mindset, leadership, social-emotional learning, and study skills.

Did you know? Our 4th and 5th graders meet with Dr. Kelly once a month for Council, which focuses on SEL competencies such as self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, and healthy decision-making.
