Congratulations to our five Westridge seniors who were announced as semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program this year: Clara K., Grace K., Claire S., Guilia W., and Charlotte Z.! The Class of 2022 was unable to take the PSAT last winter due to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop our dedicated students from pursuing the National Merit Scholarship through alternate entry. Typically students qualify for this scholarship by scoring among the top 16,000 high schoolers in the country on the PSAT. These five students did score among the top 16,000 students in the country, but they had to do so based on their scores from an official SAT test, which is longer and known to be more difficult than the PSAT.

The Westridge college counseling team will support these students as they continue in the National Merit Scholarship application process this fall, as they compete for one of 7,500 National Merit Scholarships totaling nearly $30 million. The next steps require students to submit detailed applications that include essays, recommendations, and demonstrate their academic excellence and participation and leadership in school and community activities. Finalists will be announced in the spring and summer of next year.
