The Westridge campus came alive as students, families, and employees gathered during Convocation to celebrate the start of the 2025-2026 school year on August 27. ASB President Micaela R. '26 kicked off the ceremony with the following opening remarks.

Hi everyone, my name is Micaela and for the past 8 years I have been a Westridge Tiger.

This job carries many responsibilities and skills, including the ability to cheer louder than any visiting team, owning over 100 green and white sweaters, and knowing how to sing the one and only Surgere Tentamus without the help of a program.

But those aren't the only things who made me the student I am today. The community that sits on this quad shaped me. From the teachers who provided me with the motivation to strive for more, the staff who constantly fill me with the joy as I walk from class to class, and the students who make me proud to serve as their ASB president.

Westridge is a community that builds character and strength, and as we start this new year, I wanted to reinforce that idea.

As I laid out my outfit this week, barely containing my excitement, I looked around and noticed how Westridge, like the vines of an ivy, slowly covered my room. Old textbooks, stolen pencils, prom Polaroids, and my 4th grade student ID. I looked at the photo and remembered how nervous I was before they clicked the camera. I was nervous because I didn't know what my future entailed. Little did I know the impact of a community.

My jokes are funnier, my friendships are stronger, and that's thanks to you all.

This school has taught me the importance of community. People assume that you should go through life with your head high, but I've learned that togetherness is what's important. Holding hands and having each other's backs is what makes the world go round.

So, as we jump into this school year, remember this moment. All of us here to support one another, sitting together, laughing with each other, and continuing the strong bonds of a community that ultimately builds Westridge.
