Board Chair's Message
Board Chair's Message
My family and I are in our ninth year at Westridge – our daughter, Sophie ’13, now in her senior year, is almost officially a Westridge “lifer.” As Westridge parents, my wife Debbie and I have been active in various capacities because we enjoy being part of a community that does so much for our daughter, her friends, and many other girls who have come before and will follow.
Throughout our time at Westridge, the school’s willingness to change and adapt has been a core asset to its growth, academic distinction, and all-girls advantage. Institutions that embrace change endure. They grow, evolve, and improve in ways that may not be easy, making success that much more significant and visionary.
Westridge is that institution — this school does not shy away from change. As we continue to work on the school’s strategic plan, this is evident in our critical areas of focus: longevity through financial sustainability, outreach and growth through marketing, and academic strength focused on 21st century skills and values.
As we look toward the next century, this strategic planning process reminds us of where we are now, helps us to see the bigger picture, and establishes a vision for enhancing an already exceptional Westridge education. In order to achieve a well-rounded perspective, we have reached out to many constituents for their feedback — students, parents, alumnae, employees, and other schools — receiving thoughtful responses that reinforce the school’s strengths and identify areas for improvement upon which we can build.
As an independent school, Westridge is only as strong as the community that supports it. We exceeded our Annual Fund goal of $840,000 by over $25,000 in 2011-2012 and are proud of the 87 percent parent, 90 percent faculty and staff, and 100 percent trustee participation. Alumnae from the Classes of 1945 and 1947 achieved 100 percent participation, and giving from parents of alumnae increased 42 percent from the previous year. We thank all of you for your support!
Establishing a strong sense of community has been a priority under Elizabeth McGregor’s leadership. With the support of school, parent, and alumnae leaders, the Westridge community has become more integrated, inclusive, and active. The formation of the Multicultural Parent Collaborative and Westridge Dads’ Club are just some examples of the new ways that Westridge is engaging its community members with one another and the school.
Community is also a keystone of the school’s upcoming Centennial in 2013-2014. Nearing our 100-year milestone is a testament to the legacy, excellence, and longevity of Westridge School. Our Centennial will celebrate the Westridge community, past and present, and salute a century of educational excellence.
Working with a diversely talented board deeply committed to the school’s mission, values, and traditions has been an inspiration — I am honored to play an active role in the school’s leadership during this exciting time in Westridge’s history. Thank you for all you do for Westridge.
