The 75 members of Westridge School’s Class of 2017 unveiled the 44 different colleges or universities they will be attending next fall during last month’s College Commitment Ceremony (a.k.a. Chalk Day!) while the College Counseling Team released the complete list of schools to which students were admitted at the May Westridge Parent Association Meeting.
The diverse range of intuitions Westridge students were admitted to includes strong liberal arts schools (including Claremont McKenna, Davidson, Grinnell, Middlebury, Pomona, Swarthmore and Vassar), women’s colleges (Barnard, Scripps, Smith), an HBCU (Howard), highly acclaimed engineering schools (including Caltech, Georgia Tech, MIT, Rose-Hulman and USC Viterbi), Ivy League schools (Columbia, Cornell, Penn, and Princeton), arts programs (Cal Arts and Savannah College of Art and Design), and top research and state universities (including Boston College, UChicago, Michigan, NYU, Vanderbilt, and WashU). Nearly half of the graduating class will remain in the state of California, including nine scholars who are Berkeley-bound next fall to attend the University of California. Westridge students remaining in the Golden State will also be heading to Cal Baptist, Cal Poly (SLO), Caltech, Chapman, Claremont McKenna, Loyola Marymount, Occidental, Pasadena City College, Pomona, Scripps, Stanford, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, and USC.
The rest will make their new home away from home in Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee, Washington, Washington D.C., and just north of the border in British Columbia.
“This class has raised the bar in every way for future Westridge classes,” said Lynn O’Grady, Director of College Counseling. “From academics and athletes, to serving one another and the community, they excel. There is no doubt this class will have a significant impact on the world.”
Congratulations Class of 2017! Strive to rise wherever life takes you and we look forward to officially welcoming you into the ranks of alumnae at Commencement on Friday, June 9.
